Contact Youth Counselling Service

Youth Counselling
Contact Youth Counselling Service provides confidential Counselling for young people aged 11 – 25 years, which is free at the point of delivery.
What is Counselling?
Counselling is a safe and proven form of Talking Therapy (also known as Psychological Therapy) that provides an opportunity to explore difficult issues and feelings and if wanted, effect change in a way that is appropriate for you.You may be experiencing a crisis or going through a difficult time. Whatever the cause, Counselling helps you to come to terms with your circumstances.
It is always you who decides what can or cannot be talked about; you will not be forced to discuss things that you are not ready to divulge, or go at a faster pace than feels safe for you. The Counselling offered is open-ended, i.e. the number of sessions is not usually limited. Some young people may have just one or two sessions, while others may choose to see a counsellor for a long time. The average is between 6 – 12 sessions, once a week. What you talk about remains confidential between you and your Counsellor unless they become seriously concerned for your safety or that of other people. They will discuss the limitations and what would happen at your first meeting.
Referrals
Due to demand there may be a waiting list, though this may vary across the service depending on location. The service works on a first-come, first-served basis and as soon as a space becomes available the next young person on the list will be contacted.
We welcome referrals directly from young people themselves, friends & family or agencies such as Social Services, GPs, schools etc. If the referrer or other agency requites a report or feedback, this would be discussed with the young person and prepared collaboratively with them.
Contact Youth Counselling Service is part of The Tiverton Market Centre Co Ltd (registered charity no; 1075456) and receives little regular statutory funding. We rely on charitable donations and grants and seek to recover the full cost of our services where possible. This does not affect the young person’s entitlement to counselling or the length of time Counselling is available.
Please contact the Counselling Manager or Tiverton Market Centre to discuss any of the above, or for further information.
