Tiverton Market Centre Youth Drop In

Newsletter September 2011

First we would like to offer a very BIG THANK YOU to you all for you support this year. This past year, has been a year of change for the centre.

We have the pleasure of informing you that we have now completely re-vamped our website, the new address is www.tivertonmarketcentre.com and the new email address is info@tivertonmarketcentre.com , we have spent a lot of time trying to get the site right, so it will be attractive for the young people and easy to use, and a way of keeping people up to date and also to help us raise financial support. We felt it was positive to include other youth organisations in the area, so the young people who use our site know what else is available to them. It is a good way to support other local charities that can’t afford their own website and give them publicity.

We have spent a number of weeks (before the summer holidays) going into Tiverton High School speaking to all the tutor groups about the centre, now all 1300 pupils are aware of the centre and what we offer. A positive outcome has been that the student welfare team has agreed to bring students who they work with regularly, that may need extra support outside school, to the centre, so we can offer our help to these young people and give them an opportunity to meet the staff.

After many months of searching we have now found a new music teacher who can teach guitar, so our music group has been able to restart. He is a local lad who loves music and plays in a local band, his excitement for music is infectious so we have high hopes for this group. This is a project that we want to keep pushing forward as a lot of our young people have a real passion for music and it is an area where they can feel good about themselves.

We have seen a lot of our young people move on this year for a number of reasons, some onto jobs, some moving on due to age etc, so we had a quiet summer holiday but I am pleased to say our numbers are steadily increasing again, and we are hoping that this coming year we will see a new group of young people attend the centre.

We are continuing to try and be creative in our fund raising and as you will see from our website we have set up new ways of encouraging people to support us financially, our monthly donation scheme is still going well, we have also set up a new text giving scheme. Also we have joined Nat West Community force (you don’t have to be a Nat West Customer) where people can vote for their favourite charity http://communityforce.natwest.com/?extcam=furl-communityforce  so please go on line a register your vote! It doesn’t cost you anything.

Your support really does make a difference so on behalf of us all, THANK YOU!
